Landscape Taos Pueblo oil painting 16"x20" J Smiley

My reference for this painting is the Taos Pueblo one of my favorite places. This is more how it felt than how it really is. The adobe changes color according to the time of day, and this was sunset. The doorway is my own addition. I love the shape of the keyhole door way. The way that the adobe breaks down and cracks form.

Nude mixed media 8"x10" red and mauve J Smiley

This is a mixed media nude woman with a canyon background. I used oil and rice paper in kind of a collage way. As I was painting this one all of a sudden there she was so I just pulled her out a little and glued some rice paper on for a little dark. It is coated with a high gloss medium to protect the rice paper and the surface. This is the second paintng that I have attached paper to and I like them. Maybe this is a new direction for me for awhile.

The Cave 5"x5" gallery wrap

This painting seems like a magic cave to me. It might be filled with all the good and beautiful thoughts that all of the special people that I know have thought about me.---- All of the other kind are somewhere else!

I am pleased with this one. It feels just like a early morning at the edge of the canyon. It seems to me once in a while that I can hear the canyon's breath.

My reference for this little painting was driving to visit my daughter in Cave Creek Ariz. The empty space between little towns and how the highway catches the light and it seems that you are almost there but that of course is an illusion.

Canyon Country 18"x24"

I have been painting a little larger the last week or so and it takes more time even tho I paint every day. I am happy with this one I like the white lines.
