A pomegranate! I always buy them just to look at, so finally I decided to try to paint one. The small one turned out ok, but a larger one that I tried did not do so well. There is more to this than meets the eye. In the large one I could not go beyond the eye.

Red Pear 5"x7"

Another pear, I do love painting pears. Of course red are the best. My new studio faces west, (not the best light) but I can control it so far. In any case I see the sunset every nite and with the smog and clouds they are very colorful. It is definitely affecting my painting. From my other studio I saw mostly green as it faced east and the hills so without realizing it I was painting with a lot of shades of green or red. Now it is orange and lavender and violet.

Two green apples 5"x7"

Now it is apples, Granney Smith to be exact. Great for pies, but it is the color that I love. I am learning so much from these little still lifes. I think it must be the intense study to find the shape and color. Feeling the shape and weight, the texture of the skin. I have come to know these apples so very well. This is the first painting of them, and then I did another one with three of them in it. I was going to paint one more, but thanksgiving day my great grandson ate my best one. I looked up from doing dishes and there he was with my best apple! His little teeth made little craters in the skin. Oh well there are lots of apples to get to know, of course they are all different.

I am finding that the curves have angles before they curve. The color -- there are more and more colors that are there to paint. I still have not captured them all. Many pears to go it seems.

Canyon floor #2 5"x5" Abstract landscape

Another Canyon de Chelly floor painting. Looking over the edge of the canyon these lines can be seen. They are made by the weather, water, horses, and sheep, (of course a few are made by the jeeps that take tourists down to see the canyon.) They are always changing. They are changed by the same forces that created them in the first place. The most sure thing in the Universe is change. The idea, then, it would seem is to find the beautiful in the change, so that it can be welcomed. Canyon de Chelly 11"x14"

I go to the Navajo Reservation as often as I can. It is a sacred and healing place to me. I was often there as a child with my father. Canyon de Chelly is a wonderful place at any time of the day, but sunset is the best. I think these images of the canyon are stored in my soul ready to be painted at any time that I would like to be there. California has wonderful color and line but I still get homesick for this part of the country. This painting is 11"x14" painted on canvas. sold
