Pear 36"x36"

Last of the pears. This one is BIG. I loved doing it, and I still like it. Surprise! There is something about these colors that I can almost taste. Alfredo my first and only teacher would say "frosting" DO NOT PAINT FROSTING! Well I did anyway. I do not follow directions well. 36"x36" unframed it is painted on gallery wrap and does not need to be framed. If you would like to purchase this one email me at phyljan@aol.com.sold

Pear 6"x8"

Another pear That's because I like the colors and the shape of this fruit. I am almost finished with it tho tomorrow I will list a 36"x36" one and then I am finished for awhile I hope. I paint every day that I am home. This is what I have always wanted to do so I am doing it finally. I think that is why I paint impressionist/sorta real/and then abstract. I feel as if I must paint all that is in me in order to make up for lost time. It is as if they are layered in there and under each one there is another that "must" be painted. Of course many go into the recycle bin but those are as important as the ones that don't because underneath there it is the next painting/shape/color/feeling. I know many artists find the subject or style and perfect it. that does not seem to be my way yet. Maybe after a few more layers I will be there and begin that process.

This painting is 6"x8" unframed it is painted on gallery wrap and will not need to be framed. If you would like to purchase this painting email me at phyljan@aol.com for details.

Canyon wall 24"x30" sold

The wall of the canyon. Is this the boundary protecting the floor? It reflects the sky but in a different way than the floor does. All of the canyon is influenced by all that is above it and around it. Artists always paint themselves in some form or another. I have always believed this. My one and only teacher said to me "what do you have to say" you have to have something to say! I have never had anything to say. I can only express my self. I can only know another person, place, or thing through my self and my awareness. If I am "outside of my self" I then do not really know what I think only what the other thinks or is. To express it I must come back to my self and express it through my self. It then becomes my impression, which may not be the "thing" at all. Oh well that's the way it is for me and I must make do with that.

The floor of the Canyon #2 30"x40" sold

I did a series of the canyon floor all from the same visit. I still do "the floor sometimes" It is so different than the walls (of course) The Navajo live there at certain times of the year. I don"t know just why I go from "real" to abstract but there it is I do. I am posting old paintings as I want to see them all in one place.

Canyon floor 30"x40" sold

The floor of the canyon. When you stand at the edge of Canyon de Chelly and look down the floor is a wonderful pattern. The colors and patterns change all of the time with the wind and water. The first time I stood there I could hear the sheep bells rising on the wind. I love this canyon.

Wall of the Ancestors 24"x36 sold

Wall of the Ancestors. The history of the ancients are all in the walls of the canyons. The stone holds all of the stories. This painting is 24"x36" on un-stretched canvas it is painted in oil and is sold.

I am listing old paintings so that I can "see" my history in one place. I know it could be more organized but then it would not be mine as I am not so organized I paint what I feel on the day the painting starts so they are mixed, some completely abstract and some more realistic. All questions and comments are welcome at phyljan@aol.com

Pueblo sold

Taos Pueblo is the reference for this painting. For me it is not so much how it looks but how it feels to me. When I am able to capture that I am happy.

Apple 5"x7"

A little apple from my tree. The size is 5"x7" unframed, it is painted on gallery wrap and is ready to hang. I like these new colors. I guess it was time for a change. These are the ones I seem to see now. Wonder how this happens? Suddenly I am seeing things differently, this was not a conscious change. Oh well i am going to go with it for awhile and "see" where it is taking me.

Green Apples 36"x36" Inside and outside

I have two apple trees in my yard and I could not resist. I started this painting with the seed I was not going to paint the whole apple just an abstraction of it. But once I got started it needed more so I kept adding until I had the whole thing. Most people who look at this do not realize that the seed is on the outside. (they think it is just a bump or a worm thing) It only goes to show that we cannot hide our inside no matter how hard we try it always shows, it is just that others do not always recognize it (they think it is just, maybe a bump, on our self) So now I have an apple with a message!

The size of this painting is 36"x36" unframed, it is painted on gallery wrap canvas and can be hung as is. If you would like to purchase this painting email me at phyljan@aol.com for details.

Canyon memories Canyon de Chelly

This is an older painting. I am trying to organize my self. Trying is the key here. Anyway I am putting all of the sold work in one place to save it ( for some reason) This painting is in a New York restaurant. I did a series of these a couple of years ago and one man bought them all for his restaurant. It seemed to me that the sky and the canyon were intermixed. At least they were in my mind. I am getting ready for another trip to "the canyon" and looking at these now seems to be a good idea. This is a very large painting 36"x48" I think.
